The Overthinking Olympics - breaking up with overthinking and learning how to take action for better results and less stress.

WATCH THE VIDEO

Hi guys. Welcome to the Overthinking Olympics. This is how you can break analysis paralysis.

Every day, I know countless people wake up and start running mental laps around the "what ifs." It’s a competition I call the Overthinking Olympics. We all know this feeling—getting stuck overthinking to the extent that we can’t take action.

Overthinking often feels productive; we tell ourselves that we're being diligent, careful, and thorough. But the reality is that it creates a lack of ability to follow through, also known as inertia.

The longer we overthink, the more stuck we become. For anyone striving to align their success with a deeper vision, this is the ultimate roadblock. Overthinking is like heating up the engine of a car while it’s in idle—eventually, it will blow a gasket. The breaking point comes when overthinking becomes unsustainable.

I created this video because, as a 2am CEO, I understand the worries and big decisions we juggle—whether it’s career, relationships, or the trajectory of our futures.

Every choice feels monumental. We convince ourselves that if we just think things through enough, we’ll land on the perfect path. But here's the magic: taking a breath means embracing the unknown between the leap and the landing. Overthinking almost always makes us less likely to act, which then makes us feel overwhelmed and stuck.

If you're exhausting yourself thinking about a future you’re not moving toward, I wanted to share a few tips that I use and coach others on to move from overthinking into taking the next right step.

Overthinking costs us time, energy, and potential opportunities. Recognising the subconscious behaviour of churning through ideas that aren’t serving a purpose is crucial.

The Illusion of Productivity

Overthinking feels productive. You think you're being diligent, careful, and thorough, but in reality, it’s the opposite. It creates inertia—a lack of ability to follow through. The longer you overthink, the more stuck you become. For anyone striving to align their success with a deeper vision, this is the ultimate roadblock.

The Hidden Cost of Overthinking

Overthinking is like idling a car engine—it heats up but doesn’t go anywhere. And at one moment, you've got to blow a gasket. This breaking point is where overthinking becomes unsustainable.

Overthinking costs you time, energy, and potential. It’s not just costing you time; it’s costing you opportunities. When you’re exhausting yourself thinking about a future that you’re not moving towards, it’s imperative to shift gears.

The Kicker: Research Findings - the facts and stats....

Consider this: a study published by Harvard Business Review reveals that overthinkers spend 30% more time delivering on decisions than their decisive counterparts. By the time you're ready to act, you've depleted the mental energy required to follow through.

Overthinking doesn’t improve outcomes; being discerning does. Research shows that people who over-analyse are just as likely to make mistakes as those who act with confidence.

Replace Fear with Curiosity

Overthinking stems from fear—fear of failure, judgement, or making the wrong move. We trick ourselves into believing we need more information for certainty. The truth is, the real world doesn’t reward perfect plans; it rewards consistent action.

So Let's go - Breaking Free from Analysis Paralysis ⬇️

So how do you break free from this Overthinking Olympics? Here's a system I use personally and teach others:

  1. Empower Decision Deadlines: Set a timer when making decisions.  Whether it’s 15 minutes, an hour, or a day, decide within that timeframe. This isn’t about being reckless; it’s about training your brain to value momentum over perfection.

  2. Limit Information Overload: Set boundaries for research, e.g., reading three articles or consulting a friend, then decide. Trust the information you’ve gathered and be discerning about who you take advice from. More information doesn’t always lead to better decisions.

  3. Confronting Fear: Ask yourself, “What’s the worst that can happen?” Most of the time, the scenario isn’t as catastrophic as it feels. Write it down to cognitively remove the emotional weight and look at it objectively.

  4. Change Your State:Studies show that physical movement can break repetitive thought patterns and spark creativity. Whether it’s walking, running, or swimming, moving your body can provide a cognitive reset, helping you think more clearly.

  5. Adopt a Bias for Action:Clarity comes from doing, not thinking. Action creates feedback, which then refines your path. The sooner you act, the sooner you’ll learn what works and what doesn’t. This hands-on experience is invaluable.

My 21-Day Challenge - Just because!

I’ve built a 21-day challenge within Acceler8te! our app to help people access a VERY simple way to build the confidence to act, one tiny step at a time. It’s about more than acknowledging you overthink; it’s turning that awareness into action.

This framework helps you rewire your decision-making process, build the confidence to act with purpose, and reclaim the energy wasted on unproductive thoughts. Procrastination only delays the beautiful opportunities that await you. By aligning your actions with your deeper vision of success, you become the person who leads with clarity, confidence, and purpose.

Conclusion

  1. So, what’s one decision you’ve been overthinking? What’s one step you’ve been putting off? The perfect time doesn’t exist.

The only way forward is to start by being the perfect version of yourself and taking the next right step. Join me on the 21-day challenge - launching the 1st of Feb so if you're reading this before then email us on [email protected] and we will send you the link when it's live.

Remember, procrastination is just delaying all the awesome results that await you in taking micro steps of action.

Become the kind of person who leads with clarity, confidence, and purpose. The only thing worse than overthinking is staying stuck. This is your permission to move forward and replace fear with curiosity.

YOU ARE EITHER 'ONE DAY' OR A 'DAY ONE' PERSON - make a stand for what you want to shift this year and take the next right step.

I guarantee you can do it.

Thanks for joining me and I’d love to hear your comments on how you’ve reframed overthinking into action in bite-sized chunks that add up to radical results!
